Schumann Piano Sonata No. 1 in F sharp minor, Op. 11 & Selected Vocal Works
Tchaikovsky Selected Vocal Works
Viktoria Khoroshunova soprano
Tolga Atalay Ün piano
Introductory talk by Stephen Johnson
Tchaikovsky’s love for Robert Schumann went way beyond admiration for a great Romantic master. It was an acknowledgment of spiritual kinship, of the debt owed by one hyper-sensitive, striving soul to another. In placing Tchaikovsky and Schumann side by side, this concert reveals significant things about the two composers, both as artists and as men. At the same time, it’s a musical feast.
This event features two prize-winning participants in last summer’s Musical Odyssey masterclasses – summer courses with a difference, offering intensive tutoring from leading musicians and teachers, public performances and various prizes, including sponsored concert engagements.
